6 Months of Google+ Updates

6 Months of Google+ Updates
Six months ago, we launched an all-new version of Google+ on iOS, a big update to our Android app, and a preview of our new experience Web. At that time (https://plus.google.com/u/0/+LukeWroblewski/posts/jJvNS3mwxyv) I mentioned: “While this is an exciting new beginning for us, we’re definitely not done yet.”

Since then we’ve fixed 4,149 bugs, addressed 253 accessibility issues, and launched 19 Web updates, 12 Android app updates, and 7 iOS app updates. Thanks to all of you for the feedback you sent, which helped guide us through all these launches.

While I’m sure you have additional fixes/issues that we need to address next, I just wanted to pause for a moment and thank our teams (and you!) for all the help over the past six months.

So… thanks~

For most websites, Google+ doesn’t drive the volume of social traffic that Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter do. But it can still be interesting place to hang out, and it may help with SEO. Tom Pick

What You Missed

What You Missed
We recently rolled out a new feature for Google+ on Android, iOS, and our new Web preview. “What You Missed” finds great older posts that you haven’t seen yet and shows them in your Home stream with a clear “What you Missed” label, so you don’t miss out on content you’ll love.

As with every new feature, please keep sending us your ideas/issues using the Send Feedback menu item in any of our apps.
Thanks~

G+ Android Update 8.1.0

G+ Android Update 8.1.0
Another light Google+ Android app release this week as we continue to work on bigger re-writes to help make Android changes faster in the future. Starting to roll out today:

* 5 bugs fixed
* Speed improvements when you follow or add people to circles
* Ability to make a post from top of home stream, which we had to turn off due to a bug in the 8.0.0 release. I made a video of how this works on the G+ iOS app (where it launched first) to illustrate all the ways we are maximizing screen space in the app when you browse any of your streams.

More Android app updates are coming so please send us your ideas/issues using our Send Feedback menu item as that’s the best way to make sure we see them. Thanks~

G+ iOS Update 5.7.0

G+ iOS Update 5.7.0
We’re launching our sixth Google+ iOS app update of the year. This version will be rolling out to Apple’s App Store starting today. Within it you’ll find the following new features and fixes:

* 3 bugs fixed
* Inline playback of YouTube videos
* Quick reply action for comments
* Faster access to share recent photos
* Record videos to share from within the app
* View large profile images in a gallery

More iOS app updates are coming so please send us your ideas/issues using our Send Feedback menu item as that’s the best way to make sure we see them. Thanks~

G+ Android Update 8.0.0

G+ Android Update 8.0.0
While the version number implies big changes, our 11th Android app update this year is a bit more modest. With it we’re starting to roll-out the following changes:

* 8 bugs fixed
* 5 accessibility issues addressed
* Ability to make a post from top of home stream
* Help & Feedback in main menu
* QUIC to improve latency for slow networks (2G, 3G)
* Provide additional details when reporting abuse on posts. (I recognize this adds an additional tap or two but the added information we collect helps us ensure G+ remains a great place to connect around shared interests.)

We continue to listen to your suggestions and ideas on how to improve G+ so please keep them coming using the (now more convenient) Send Feedback menu item.
Thanks~
