It’s here! Embedded Twitter images support

This long time expected Friends+Me feature is finally here to help you increase clicks, favorites and retweets of your Twitter posts originated from Google+.

Any image Friends+Me finds in your Google+ post will be reposted to Twitter as an embedded image.

What is it all about? Twitter recently announced a new feature where images can be viewed in the stream without clicking to view and this can get you a significant increase in engagement.

Buffer did some research regarding the impact of this new Twitter feature and results look very promising:

• Tweets with images received 89% more favourites
• Tweets with images received 18% more clicks than those without
• Tweets with images received 150% more retweets

It looks great, doesn’t it? And believe me, your Twitter followers are gonna love it!

Thanks go to Ben Johnston for helping during tests and for pushing us to implement this feature 🙂

  1. Awesome! When I’ve shared images I’ve generally turned off twitter sharing and done it by hand because I know twitter users expect to see images inline.

  2. I think something is wrong. If I share a link the Twitter post shows the image from that link, but doesn’t show the actual link in the twitter post. Is it just me?

  3. Ads of the World you should probably enable “Always link back to the original Google+ activity” in “Setup” of your Twitter accounts.

  4. Friends+Me Yes, but that’s not what I want. I want a link in Twitter to the link I gave in Google+. I want people to access the linked content directly without going through a Google+ post. It used to work fine before this change.

  5. I really like this feature when I’m sharing photos or albums. I have mixed feelings about it for sharing the article thumbnails. Those often add little to twitter, and they take up valuable characters (what’s the maximum text available now?)

  6. I don’t like this feature very much. It posts accompanied image from shared link as a separate image. This does not make much sense if the link has meaningless image.

  7. Well, should we create Twitter repost with image only for Google+ posts created by F+M account owner? I mean to not to create Twitter reposts with images for G+ reshares.

  8. Friends+Me There can be an option where we can select whether we like to post within a photo or not. AND when I disable the link back to the original Google+ activity where there is a link TO other website, the link will be deleted in twitter.

  9. This is a marvelous development, but there are times I would prefer the Twitter card. Like users above, I felt that having an attached thumbnail from a link (with the resulting loss of characters) had little value over the card. I’d personally prefer being able to turn it off as a default but then activate it (perhaps with a hash tag) when I want to use it. That way, I could have a Twitter card for a link and an embedded Twitter picture for a shared photo or photo album.
